Youcef son of IbrahimAl Sadrati(2), Al Warjlani Known by the name of Abu Yaakub، is regarded as one of Algeria's scholars whom have bequeathed to us a huge legacy in both the translative(3) and rational sciences.

After his studies in Andalus and his travels to Africa and the Mashrek(4), he returned to his birth place in his home country, settled there and devoted himself to serving science.

For this, he confined himself to his own home for seven years! Whenever someone visited him, he would find him busy either writing, reading, teaching, interpreting a bookm bookbinding, sharpening his pens or making ink.

Nothing would stop him from these activities other than performing his religious duties.

Whenever he decided to write a book or transcribe one، he would not make a big fuss of it as nothing would put him off neither the amount nor the difficulty.

Thus, his students benefited from him and so did the people of his town a thing that made him famous among his people in Warjlen and beyond to become renowned all over North Africa.

Mail came pouring to him form all over, asking for advice and clarification of complicated matters.

He gathered some of these letters in the third and last part of his book 'Al DaliluwelBourhan', 'The proof and the evidence' which encompassed the linguistic arts، Islamic jurisprudence, philosophy, as well as the arts of speech and politics.

One of his most known books in Jurisprudence and its fundamentals is 'Justice and fairness in the knowledge of jurisprudence fundamentals and divergence'.

In the Hadith field we know of his compilation of Musnad of Raabi Bin Habib.

In logic, philosophy and mathematics he has the book of 'Maraja Al Bahrayn'.

In the interpretation, Abu Yaakub did interpret the holy Quran، as testified by Al Barradi when he said “...and he has in the interpretation of Quran an amazing book, I have seen it in the lands of Arigh(1) and it is a huge volume.

I have never seen such a massive book.

I guessed that it contains over seven hundred sheets may be less may be more.

It contains the interpretation of Al Fatiha، Al Bakarah, andAaliEmran.

I estimated that he had interpreted the Quran in eight similar volumes.

I do not see or have seen any interpretation more eloquent nor more healing to the chest” Abdarrahman Al Jilali, mentioned that، part of this interpretation is located in one of the filing cabinets in the Italian capital of Rome.

Also, the German orientalist, Shacht, mentioned that it is in some of Germany's libraries.

With regards to his interpretation methodology, when Al Warjlani wants to interpret a verse, then: 1) He mentions the complete verse from start to finish.

2) Analyses grammatically every word of the verse then explores and examines it from all angles.

3) Explores all the declensions of the verb from the word.

4) If the verse contains a legal commandment or decree then he would clarify it whether it is jurisprudence or dogma.

5) He would consider the different Quiraat1 and highlights the famous ones as well as the odd ones.

6) He would clarify if the verse is 'revocatory' or revoked (Nasikh or Mansoukh) 7) If the verse refers to nature، astrology، or any other science, then he would go into details and mention all the sciences that pertain to it as he was quite acquainted with all the sciences of his time; be it rational or translative or any other one.

After analyzing randomly few verses dealt with in his book 'A DaliluwelBourhan', we came to the conclusion that his method in interpretation is mainly a dogmatic one.

It sticks out as it is the overwhelming hallmark of it.

However, this does not mean that he neglected other methods such as the traditional sources, jurisprudence, and the linguistic one, ...

etc.

Concerning, his methodology in the interpretation of theses verses, we found that it is characterized by the following: • He was fairly inclined to clarifying the meaning of the verse by the traditional sources (Quran and Sunna) • He would explain the sense of the verse by a similar verse by applying different angles, analogy and explaining one by the other • He would mention the pertaining Hadiths to interpret the verse • He doesn't pay much attention to the authenticity of the Hadith.

• He relies on the linguistic aspect of the verse mainly by employing the grammatical analysis of it.

• He uses some of the issues of Quran sciences such as the 'revocatory' and revoked، the Bidaa(2), the absolute and the restrained.

• He directs the reading when interpreting a verse by saying concerning the wording of Allah then who reads it in a certain grammatical way then Allah implies such and such and who reads it with another grammatical form then it implies so and so.

• He employs the dialog style by impersonating people discussing with each other • He would argue and analyse the verse, then he would highlight the reason before giving the verdict eventually.

Abu Yaakub AL Warjlani, by his wide horizons in religion and in sciences, has left us a great and abundant literature in both the translative and rational sciences.

From our exploration of this great scholar, he clearly stand out as a scholar in Islam not in a specific nation.

Therefore, I advise myself and research students to direct their scholarly efforts to his works and the works of the likes of him and their legacy in the country in particular and in the Muslim world in general.

Also, I encourage them to thoroughly study these forgotten scholars and personalities to revive them and their works and make them known to the world for what they were and what they had contributed to science with which Islamic libraries can only get richer.
