Nowadays, it has become clear that political systems have a great influence and a growing role in directing the educational thought in order to consolidate the different values and ethical models for mass social participation.
Under the pressure of the growing tide of ideas and knowledge that constitute and make up the behavior of both the individual and community and which have resulted from globalization filled/ or loaded with cultural pattern that is purely of Western culture, education for citizenship; thus, becomes extremely an important problem that is set as a priority and at the forefront of regulations and efforts of the developing countries- believing that it is the most effective way to keep abreast of contemporary transformations and integration into contemporary human society.
In Algeria, like the Arab Maghreb countries, education for citizenship is seen as a serious concern the educational system.
This is thoroughly reflected by the growing attention to the aforementioned subject through the various reforms which surpassed, in spite of their importance, several valuable topics, especially in basic stages of education, and regardless of the problems and disequilibrium in handling the concept of citizenship education within the educational.
In the light the fact that he educational system in Algeria set the said topic on top of its priorities since the end of the 1980s, the present paper sheds light on the most important philosophical approaches adopted in upbringing of the education of citizenship in Algeria and Arab Maghreb countries compared to international models/ and standards.
Also, this paper seeks (1) to show the role of the school and the dimensions of the curriculum through analyzing their differences, and (2) to design the best future scenarios in regard to the selected models.
