The main goal of this study is to highlight the presence of cultural identity in autobiographical novel.

Novel has an ability to convey cultural identity, because novel can absorb folklore, tales, proverbs, and traditions.

Al-Hizam is the only novel of Ahmad Abu Dahman, which deals with the transition from the tribal world to live under new system.

Al-Hizam is an important novel because it highlights social change in Saudi Arabia as a result of oil discovery.

The writer tries to recall the village and its traditions, and wishes to present a text that contradicts the official narrative.

So the novel is a total condemnation of the oil era.

The author sheds light on the traditions and rites that have vanished, such as the rite of circumcision, and harshness of life, trying to present his village as an ideal one.

He also deals with the social change after education and enrolment in the organs of the state.
