Abstract EN

Based on Ibn Rushd’s view of the aesthetics of poetry and the creative process as a model, this study aims to deal with poetry aesthetics from the point of view of Andalusian philosophers.

The study focuses on some of the Andalusian philosophers’ views of the concept of poetics and its techniques, including those of Ibn Hazm al-Dhahiri, Ibn Sedah, Umayyah ibn Abi al-Salat al-Dani, Ibn Bajah al-Tijaybi, Ibn Khaldun and others.

It also explains Ibn Rushd’s view of poetic theory, a view that specifies aesthetic standards and basic concepts, such as mimesis and its rules, including: tune, rhythm, simile and imagination which uses language to express either truth or deceit.

Truthfulness is appreciated and deceit is sometimes required, provided that it is not excessive or exaggerated.

As for rhythm, it is associated with imagination and mimesis and it is ancillary to meaning.

Regarding the structure of the poem, Ibn Rushd divides it into an opening section, a body comprising themes and technical devices and a conclusion that is consistent with the opening section.
