Abstract EN

Small and medium enterprises are the backbone of the economy in general and the private sector in particular.

They provide huge employment opportunities and contribute in a great extent to the pace of development (both the social and the economic).

Thus, many countries worked on developing them, and Algeria is among those countries that have tried to pay attention to these institutions, but it has faced many challenges and obstacles.

Hence, in this paper, we are going to focus on the concept, development, challenges and problems that face the small and medium enterprises.
