Abstract EN

The study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of realistic counseling in easing the reactions and feelings of sadness and grief associated with the sudden loss of children among mothers through the examination of a case study of a mother who has lost her daughter as a result of being drowned in a foreign country.

To carry out the study, the researcher used the reactions scale associated with the sudden loss of children which was designed by the researcher as an objective measurement tool and as a partial application of the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT).

The researcher also selected four women images for the purpose of the study in addition to applying the techniques of the realistic counseling program The results of the study showed statistically important differences at the level of significance of 0.01 in the pre- and post- objective measurement phases in favor of the post- measurement phase.

The reactions of sadness and the manifestations of grief and sorrow were high and very high in the pre-measurement phase with a total degree of 4.3 and medium with a total degree of 3.18 in the post-measurement phase.

The TAT revealed a melancholy and pessimistic attitude in the pre-measurement stage and a suggestive and moderately optimistic attitude in the post-measurement stage after the application of the counseling program This confirms the effectiveness of the counseling program in reducing the reactions and manifestations of sadness associated with the sudden loss of children among mothers.

In light of the results of the study, the researcher gave a number of recommendations.
