Abstract EN

Civil Law is generally resorted to in the absence of a legal regulation in a particular problem generally due to either absence of a governing law or shortcomings in relevant laws.

The aforementioned approach perfectly applies to human rights related issues, major among them the issue of citizenship.

Although much has been written about it, citizenship issue still remains unregulated and ambiguous even to legal practitioners and politicians.

The current study deals with the issue of citizenship in two chapters.

The first of which sets forth a definition for citizenship; its historical evolvement; legal nature; Islamic jurisprudence attitude and citizenship's relation to human rights.

The second chapter deals with impact of technological developments in the informatics field on citizenship and the exercise of political rights.

The study concluded with a number of findings and recommendations.

The key recommendation reached by the study is the need for provision of information systems' infrastructure to ensure full enjoyment of human rights.
