Abstract EN

This article treats the problematic of the state in its modern concept in the thought of the Algerian Islamic movements.

We will start from a basic idea that the modern state is a product of a western cultural and historical context, and that the adoption of this model by the Arab states including Algeria, is due to pressure of external factors and circumstances, and not to self interaction.

Therefore the modern state is a historical product that carries the culture of the societies in which it arises, resulting in its turn from a historical events most notable the religious reforms that saved people from the authority of the church and led to the separation between the religious and the secular.
