Abstract EN

This study aims to discuss the importance and the role of foreign direct investment as a source of external funding for a various developing countries, without looking for excessive foreign borrowing, and be a more pressing role in the case of Algeria, which has lack of revenues as a result of lower oil prices.

In this regard it has been addressing the consequences of this decline on the Algerian economy, especially with the lowest level of revenues in 2015, considered in this study as the first one for 37 years, and the more difficult situation is the keeping of high level of imports in spite of the expectation lower levels of oil prices.

The study shows by highlighting the reality and the characteristics of foreign direct investment in Algeria, that these investments are not able until now to perform the task of diversifying the sources of funding and thus mitigate the near-total dependence on oil revenues and access to external borrowing.

The study also presented a set of proposals in order to activate these investments, so as the need to provide a strong political will in order to create the appropriate environment for investment, and work to improve the Algeria’s ranks at the global level in the field of investment attractiveness.
