Abstract EN

Pre-Islamic Arabia refers to the Arabian Peninsula prior to the rise of Islam in 630 AD.

Some of the settled communities developed into distinctive civilizations.

The historical record of Arabia includes evidence of very small Arabian towns, established during the Roman era which lasted a few centuries.

The most characteristic feature of the political life of Arabia before Islam was the domination of “the tribal system” and the absence of governments as political organs, except for Yemen and Mecca, where the Yemeni tribe of Khuzaa’h settled and was followed later by Quraysh, the tribe of Mohammed (blessings and peace upon him) around the 4th century.

The Holy Kaaba was re-built around the early years of the 5th century.

As for the residents of Mecca, they established tribal connections that came to represent the most important component of the social structure, led by the tribe of Quraysh.

Having established alliances with tribes all over the peninsula, the people of Quraysh became very active traders.

These alliances permitted the tribe to send its caravans to Yemen and Syria.

With the potential they had, the people of Quraysh became the most powerful authority in pre-islamic Arabia.
