Abstract EN

This article aims to explain the role of Twitter as a tool in the modern political information environment.

The researcher addresses patterns of the political participation of new platforms like Twitter as well as she wants to identify the most important issues and topics addressed by the political elite through their tweets.

This is a descriptive analytical study.

To this effect, the researcher relied on newspaper content analysis and direct observation as tools of collecting data.

Up to 16 Egyptian political figures have been selected to be studied.

Results revealed that Twitter is efficient in the transfer of the news.

It spreads both diverse and plentiful information.

Egyptian political elites played a substantial role in feeding the public with information that pushed forward the thrust of the 30th of June big event which led to toppling President Morsi.

Finally, the tweets of the elites represented a makeshift in the nature and action of members of the Egyptian public sphere.
