Abstract EN

The agricultural sector is the one of the key economic sectors in Syria, and strategic crops are the most important element of this sector .

Strategic crops form one of the important resources in the Syrian economy and in the life the citizens as they provide some of the citizens ' basic needs, constitute a source of livelihood to many rural citizens ,and supply raw substance for many Syrian industries.

Moreover, strategic crops are cash crops that provide foreign currency and a source of funding for other sectors and economic and social development plans for the country.

For these reasons, the government buys strategic crops and determinates their prices.

The present study involves five strategic crops (wheat , barley , beetroots , cotton and tobacco ) .

The paper conducts research and analysis on the meaning, essence and conditions of the spatial planting and concentration of strategic crops from different perspectives.

The researcher has used the latest techniques in identifying the quantitative concentration and clustering for the farming of the strategic crops in the Syrian cities .

Based on this quantitative report , the areas of the concentration were determined for each strategic crop and each city through the years 1990 .2002 & The study also addresses the changes in the range of concentration for the strategic crops through two decades of time and the conditions which contributed in this.

Finally, the findings were provided through mapping to show the values clearly.
