Abstract EN

Objective: This study aims to present the conservative treatment of the Clubfoot as a first choice, and to study the affectivity of Ponseti’s method, which depends on periodical casting of the affected foot with changing the foot’s position with no need to surgery.

Material and Methods: (21) Children that had (27) clubfeet , are the case series that underwent Ponseti’s conservative method ( with casting ) .This study was prepared at the Children University Hospital in Damascus , and covered all cases of clubfoot on neonates that were diagnosed in the orthopedic clinic in the hospital, and had underwent to conservative treatment with Ponseti’s' method, during the period between January 2012 and June 2013 .The cases had been followed for a period of 6-12 months (on average of 8,7 months ) .

Dimeglio’s clinical classification had been used to classify the studied feet , and the consecutive casts had been applied on all patients on a weekly basis .

Achilles tenectomy was performed under general anesthesia in a totally sterilized environment .

Conclusion: According to our study , we advise to use the conservative treatment by Ponseti’s method in primary clubfoot treatment in newborns ,because it is an effective method ,but it should be done by surgeons who have surgical and anatomical experience in the foot .

And it is important to tell the parents that ; it is important to follow the recommendations to get the best results.
