Abstract EN

Manuscripts were among the types of waqf that people rushed, in the central Maghreb during the middle ages, to waqf in private libraries in mosques, schools and Zaouias so as to benefit teachers and students.The building of mosques and schools came along the establishment of cabinets and making of habous (wakf) of scientificand religions books, in them, by sultans and the general public as well.

Wakf manuscripts had characterietics property them like writing “Habous” on the first sheet and on some of the sheets inside in order to differentiate them from the other books.They also had legitimate and legal rules to use them since they were subject to the terms of people who put them in waqf such as not to let them come out of the library without coping as there was also distinction between the exploitation of books and Korans.
