Abstract EN

The study of clastic deposits related Lower Cretaceous age in Zabadani area enabled us to determine some lithologic units within these deposits.

These units represent discrite stages of the transgression during the Cretaceous over the Syrian platform which was accompanied by regional volcanic activity.

The depositional environment of these deposits is generally supra-tidal to lagoonal, with some short intervals of shallow sea carbonatic deposition.

The correlation of Lower Cretaceous deposits between this area and the surrounding areas showed sea transgression progress gradually from the north-west.

The Lower Cretaceous deposits are considered to be important sources of ore deposits.

They are rich in sand, clay and iron ore.

The clay is widely extracted from two sites: Jdeidet Yabous and Kfeir Yabous for the company of ceramic industry.
