Abstract EN

Objective: This study aims at evaluating the short term results of Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA), the performance of the factitious joint during the first year after THA, and the probability of complications.

Material and Methods: Seventy (TKA) operations are the cases.

The study, which conducted in Al-Assad University Hospital (AUH) in Damascus, in period between 2011 and 2013.

All the studied cases had idiopathic Osteoarthritis (OA), as a surgical indication of THA.

Results: Good results in the short term follow up were obtained in most cases.

The pain had been totally resolved in (74,19%) of cases, and the median velocity ratio in five minutes of walking had increased from 38,60 m/min before THA to 59.79 m/min after it.

on the other hand, the superficial infection had occurred in 4,29% of the cases, and the deep infection had never occurred .Femoral periprosthetic fractures had occurred in two cases (ratio 2,86 %).

For ther more there was no need to revision in any case.

Conclusion: THA is the best solution in patients with graduated OA.

It is important to pay attention during the drilling of the acetabulum and the femur, and to keep the rules of surgical sterilization.

Finally, we can say that: the continuous developments in the surgical techniques of THA will reduce the complications and the need to joint revision
