Abstract EN

The Mohorovicic discontinuity (Moho), which separates the Earth’s crust from the underlying mantle, represents a major change in seismic velocities, chemical compositions and rheology.

The depth of the Moho is an important parameter to characterize the overall structure of the crust and can often be related to geology and tectonic evaluation of the region (Zhu and Kanamori, 2000).

Owing to the large velocity contrast across the discontinuity, part of the incoming teleseismic P wave energy will convert into SV- wave at the Moho.

By measuring the time separation between the direct P arrival and the conversion phase, the crustal thickness can then be estimated.

Receiver function analysis model the P to S converted teleseismic phases and reverberations (multiples) associated with seismic discontinuities beneath the recording site.

Modeling the amplitude and timing of these phases can supply valuable information about the lithosphere structure.

Teleseismic P-waveforms recorded at three-component seismic stations contain information on the earthquake source, the Earth structure in the vicinity of both the source and the receiver, and mantle propagation effects.

In order to isolate the response of the lithosphere structure to the incoming teleseismic P-waves from the rest of the information contained in the teleseismic registration, a source equalization procedure is applied.

This procedure consists of a simple deconvolution of the vertical component from the radial component of motion
