Abstract EN

The Damascus Greater Region, like all of Syrian regions, suffers of various developmental defect forms as a result of spatial dimension inattention at the development plans, the delays in the preparation of different levels planning studies and the failure of adoption, despite of the multiplicity of studies carried out for the region.

In light of the current Syrian crisis, which led to changes in social, economic and urban in the study area, and in particular at Damascus city urban surrounding, that will affect, directly or indirectly, those future studies.

The study relied on a set of standards: flexibility, probability, inclusiveness, harmonization, and sustainability, to evaluate the spatial development strategy, to indicate the compatibility degree with the post-crisis period.

Results showed the possibility of taking advantage of most of the studies carried out previously, but in relative terms.
