Abstract EN

From the perspective of the anthropology of symbolism and imagination, we have tried within the context of this research to address the duality of the inhabitant and the residential space, focusing on the question of the relationship between them.

the housing as we inhabit and occupy it also inhabits and occupies us.

therefore, the relationship here is a matter of accommodation and intimacy, and in order to detail this relationship, we tried to approach the subject from five points of view.

firstly, we began by an attempt of an anthropological rooting of habitation and intimacy in terms of the symbolic and the met.

secondly, we determined the meaning of the concept of residential space.

thirdly, we focused on the importance of this space as space exceeds its material existence to the social, cultural and symbolic one, through its content and what its implications like intimacy, security, self-realization and rest etc.

finally, we discussed the types of residential spaces in its both patterns horizontal and vertical one, and we finished by seeking the organization of the residential space which corresponds to communities, their culture, symbolic and religious content and their representations of life and things.
