Abstract EN

This study aims at analyzing the impact of Hashim Gharaybeh's communist ideology in his novel, The Smuggler – I Am Alive and not Afraid [Al-Bahhar – ana hayyun wa la akhaf].

It examines the influence of this ideology on the formation of the novel's point of view as the novel tries to clarify a problematic phenomenon in the contemporary Islamic and Arab society, which is the emergence of terrorist movements and the motives that make some Arabs and Muslims join them.

The novel’s point of view appears through the main character of novel and its narrator, Salim al-Naji, who claims to be a liberal and autonomous man who is led only by his experiences.

The study introduces to the analyses with discussing the complexity of the concept of ideology in the writing of critics who focus on the relationship between ideology and literature
