Abstract EN

The researcher aimed at identifying the effectiveness of teaching biology using meta cognitive learning cycle model in developing achievement and habits of mind among second grade secondary students in Makkah.

The researcher used the experimental design known as the extension of pre-posttest, control group design.

The sample of the study consisted of second year secondary students in Makkah, which included two groups: the experimental group (instructed according to the meta cognitive learning cycle model), comprising (24) students.

The control group (instructed with the conventional way of teaching biology) comprising (26) students.

To achieve the aim of the research the following tools were designed by the researcher: - An achievement test.

- Self- evaluation measure for habits of mind.

- An observation checklist for the use of habits of mind.

Research findings include: - There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and control group in the application of the achievement posttest with its different levels: (memory, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, evaluation) in favor of the experimental group.

- There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and control group in the postapplication of the self-evaluation measure for habits of mind and the observation checklist in favor of the experimental group.

Research recommendation include: Encouraging science teachers to develop habits of mind among students, by applying innovative strategies and models of teaching such as meta cognitive learning cycle model
