Abstract EN

Ibn Rushd is considered as one of the greatest philosophical figures ever lived in the Arab world.

His most important philosophical work is Tahafut al-Tahafut, in which he defended the philosophy of Aristotle.

He argued that the philosophy of Aristotle as presented by Ibn Sina in his writings was self-contradictory and an affront to the Islamic principles.

He also claimed that the arguments of Imam al-Ghazzali were also mistaken in this regard.

In his another philosophical work, Fasl al-Maqal, Ibn Rushd argues for the legal status of philosophy in religion, and argued that there are no real contradictions between philosophical investigation and religious study, each one supports the other.

He also considers philosophy as the supreme face of religion in the investigation of reality.
