however, this type of institution continues to suffer from the difficulty of obtaining adequate capital due to banks' reluctance to finance them, and their inability to access financial markets.

in this study, we will attempt to highlight the role and importance of venture capital companies as an alternative financing mechanism for small and medium enterprises.

we also highlighted the status and reality of venture capital companies in Algeria.

the study found that risk capital is the appropriate and optimal financing alternative for small and medium enterprises, especially those operating in high risk areas.

Algeria's experience in this field is still very modest and needs more efforts to promote this promising industry especially under the current situation.
