Abstract EN

This paper deals with the roles and ideologies of various political organizations and forces in Kuwait by comparing them, assessing their impact on the Kuwaiti political system, and anticipating their future roles.

The comparison is not only across organizations, but also across time.

The paper compares the ideologies of these organizations before and after the Iraqi invasion in 1990.

It was found that the invasion resulted in a significant change in the direction of convergence of ideologues toward greater emphasis on the reinforcement of national sovereignty and unity, and moving towards inward-looking ideologies that focus on domestic issues to the detriment of Arab and foreign ones.

They have also become more influential in determining the dynamics of the policymaking process in Kuwait at various levels, the most important of which are cabinet formation and domestic policy making.

It was argued that the increasing influence of political organizations in Kuwait could lead in the near future to establishing a party system in Kuwait.

The present legal system in Kuwait is quite ambiguous on this question and could be re-interpreted so as to allow establishing such system.
