Abstract EN
Algeria signed a peace and trade agreement with France in September 1668.
When Dey Chaaban took rule, the most important problem he faced was finding financial incomes to fund regency treasury for military salaries.
However, he succeeded in doing so.
At the end of his reign, many troubles happened in Tunisia which requires the intervention of Algeria led by Dey Chaaban who defeated Bey Muhammad Moradi's forces and appointed Ibn Chokr as a Bey there.
He also came back with many spoils that were the cause of a dispute between him and Khalil, the ruler of Tripoli who escaped without any spoils.
As a result, Dey Chaabane , with no competitor, became the first master over North Africa's Regencies in pursuit of title of Pacha Dey obtained by his predecessor, Dey Hussein Mezzo Morto.
