Abstract EN

The aims of this study were; Shedding light on the Ugandan culture based on female genital mutilation (FGM), in order to identify the individuals perceptions about FGM and its underlying causes.

In addition to, monitor the social, psychological and biological effects of FGM, and measure the community awareness of the risks caused by circumcision.

The field study carried out on different categories of Uganda's population.

The sample included 95 Quested (75 questionnaire, 20 interviews), aged between 14 - 60 years.

The study concluded several results, such as: - Although the culture of FGM doesn't spread clearly in Uganda, and although many Ugandans are aware of the health risks of FGM, but we can say that if the Uganda's culture supports FGM and acknowledges it, the majority of society would have done it.

- In tribal groups which recognize the culture of FGM, culture has played an important role in promoting this practice, which has made FGM an integral part of their subculture.

Some social factors, such as the status of women and their association with female genital mutilation, also played an important role in promoting the culture of FGM among these groups.
