Abstract EN

This study (Critical approach of Taha Abdulrahman) highlights the rules of critical approach of Taha Abdulrahamn, accordingly we shall know about his attitude towards the modernist readings which he classified into: fundamental modernist readings and imitative modernist readings.

Imitative modernist readers believe that only critical reading achieves a modernist approach to Quranic verses, guided by western modernist methods.

Such quoted methods do not take into account the specificity of the Qur'an, in turn; Taha Abdulrahman maintained that reading Quran shall only achieve creativity if it is based on belief.

The main principles which outline the imitative reading are: humanization, rationalization and historicization principles.

One of disadvantages of the imitative modernist reading is: its pioneers have not exerted any efforts to criticize the quoted methods before applying them to the Quran and Islamic heritage, in general.

Also, they are not versed in the quoted methods and theories, instead, they insist on working with excessive methods and mechanisms.

From his part, Taha Abdulrahman believes that Muslims shall only adopt modernism if they present a new reading for the Quran inspired by modernism through three principles: rationality, criticism and inclusiveness principles.

If a reading is based on such principles, he considers it as an innovative modernist reading not an imitative one! But he forgot that adopting spirit of modernism without its reality is impossible, as modernism is formed by a set of various philosophies and theories which outline its aim and principles, being reflected on the various aspects of life, especially moral, religious, and cultural one.
