The absence of an "indigenous" newspaper had made the young Algerians feel the weight of their dependence on local European newspapers to freely express their ideas and enlighten the Algerian public opinion on the various political, religious and cultural problems that have unsettled the Muslim world.
Tlemcen and Oran are among the Algerian cities that have succeeded in the "historical recovery" providing, from 1880, the first figures of a true intelligentsia that, from the beginning of the 20th century, will build a new political and cultural identity which henceforth will be known as the Algerian Youth.
From then on, the group of young Algerian "intellectuals" from Oran and Tlemcen, gathered around the teacher Larbi Fekar deciding to create in May 1904, in Oran, El Misbah (The Lamp) newspaper, the first newspaper inspired by Youth Algeria in Algeria.
It was intended to be the first platform of an emerging elite preparing for the advent of Muslim opinion journalism that would know its hour of glory between the two world wars.

L’absence d’un journal « indigène », avait fait sentir aux Jeunes Algériens tout le poids de leur dépendance à l’égard des journaux européens locaux pour exprimer librement leurs idées et éclairer l’opinion publique algérienne sur les divers problèmes politiques, religieux et culturels qui secouent alors le monde musulman.
Tlemcen et Oran sont parmi les villes algériennes qui ont réussi la « reprise historique », en fournissant, à partir de 1880, les premières figures d’une véritable intelligentsia qui, à partir du début du XXè siècle, va se construire une nouvelle identité politique et culturelle, qui sera désormais connue sous le nom de Jeunes-Algériens.
Dès lors, le groupe d’ « intellectuels » Jeunes-Algériens d’Oran et de Tlemcen, rassemblés autour de l’instituteur Larbi Fekar, décident de créer en mai 1904, à Oran, le journal, El Misbah (le Flambeau), premier journal d’inspiration Jeune-algérie en Algérie, il se voulait être la première tribune d’une élite naissante préparant l’avènement d’un journalisme d’opinion musulman qui connaitra son heure de gloire dans l’entre deux-guerres.
