Abstract EN

This paper seeks to define the concept of Madrasa in the Islamic Middle Ages - a concept that underwent serious distortion.

It then reviews the current definitions that do not reflect its true essence.

It is an attempt to review the current definitions, which only add to the ambiguity and confusion, because they do not relay its specificity and do not answer the question of what the essence of the concept is.

Based on a conceptual linguistic approach, the study will clarify the correlation between the linguistic and conventional aspects of the concept of school, in order to emphasize what distinguishes it from other institutions, namely, teaching and nothing else.

The study relies upon a collection of books of translations, manuscripts and classes in the Islamic Middle Ages.
