Abstract EN

This study seeks to find a deeper and more complete understanding of how Somali youth played a role in bringing down Somalia's junta led by Mohammed Said Barre in 1991.

Equally, the author seeks to understand the prospects for that same generation in bringing about a desired democratic transition to their country.

In making these arguments, the author relies on a largely qualitative methodology to unravel the development of events in Somalia.

The study argues that Somali youth have a vital role to play in formulating a democratic transition in their country.

The author further concludes that democracy represents remains one of the main hopes and aspirations for Somali youth, in their bid to overcome the traditional power structures, which have previously hindered their progress.
