Abstract EN

This study was conducted at AL-buyarat AL-garbya, west Palmyra during 2010/ 2011 and 2011/2012 growing seasons to determine the optimum date and plant density for sowing two faba bean varieties.

The studied factors were two sowing dates (15/10 and 5/11), plant densities (16.7 and 11.1 plants/m2) and two varieties of faba bean (kobrusi and Hama1).

Results showed that sowing on early date 15/10 resulted in increasing plant height, number of branches/plant and pod length as compared with 5/11 sowing date.

While 5/11 sowing date surpassed early sowing date 15/10 in number of pods/plant, productivity (ton/ha) 2and harvest index.

Decreasing number of plant /m2 from 16.7 to 11.1 plants/m2 resulted increasing in number of branches and pods/plant, productivity of green pods (ton/ha) and harvest index, while the opposite was recorded for plant height.

The interaction between sowing dates, densities and varieties was significant on studied characters, except, plant height.

The highest productivity of green pods (14.58 and 10.55 ton/ha) obtained from sowing Hama1 and Kobrusi varieties, respectively, on 5/11 with plant density 11.1 plants/m2.
