Abstract EN

This study aims at knowing what the ancient Arabic linguists have addressed in what concerns the sentence.

Thus, our purpose is to reach the Arabic linguistic theories which are similar to the contemporary Western studies, especially in the field of grammar, syntax and linguistic analysis.

Indeed, Arabs have always been interested in the concept of a sentence with all its conditions and changes, where the sentence was the basis of language.

This is the same as we find at the beginning of modern linguistic studies with the emergence of the descriptive approach.

As far as the elements of this research are concerned, three basic elements are addressed, namely the term sentence in the history of Arabic grammar, the term sentence in contemporary Western studies.
