Abstract EN

The present study aimed to identify the degree of the possession of Tabuk University students to the metacognitive thinking skills in the light of some variables: age, academic year and specialization of the university.

also a scale for discovering the degree of possession of metacognitive thinking skills have been devised that composed of (45) statements in its final draft.

the study sample consisted of 200 students from different educational disciplines at the faculty of education and arts at the university of tabuk (Islamic studies, special education, languages and translation, Arabic, and history).

the sample has been chosen randomly .the study concluded that the degree of possession of the study sample to the metacognitive thinking skills was average, and that the planning skills are the most possessed among the other skills.

most of its items got a high ranking, with a mean of (3.9).

similar to them was the with the observation skills in the ranking but with a lower mean.

whereas, the evaluation skill scored the lowest mean as it got an average ranking.

the results also showed that there was an impact to the variable of specialization at the level of students' possession of metacognitive thinking skills in favor of those majoring in Arabic, whereas there are statistically significant differences that could be attributed to age, academic year, whereas in the area of evaluation skills, there are statistically significant differences according to the two variables of specialization and academic year in favor of the fourth year students compared to the other levels among the students of Arabic language.

the study recommended the need for diversification in the teaching skills and strategies and avoiding of the traditional methods of teaching and the launching of new tracks that help develop metacognitive thinking skills.
