العلاقة بين تنمية القطاع المصرفي و النمو الاقتصادي في الجزائر : دراسة تجريبية باستخدام نموذج الانحدار الذاتي للإبطاء الموزع 1970-2013

Abstract EN

To test the effect of banking sector development on economic growth in Algeria over the period of 1970-2013, we have used the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model.

Money supply relative to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is used as banking sector development indicator, the study also focused on the impact of the hydrocarbon sector on economic growth.

The empirical results show that in the long run the banking sector development has a positive but weak impact on growth, an increase by 1% in the banking sector development causes an improvement of 0.3% in growth; this may be due to the negative impact of the so-called the natural resource curse.

Thus, Algeria is recommended to accelerate in priority the financial reforms and the privatization of the banking sector, as well as the diversification of the economy outside the hydrocarbons and enhancing the role of the private sector.
