Abstract EN

this document aims at trying to roughly evaluate the effectiveness level of governmental structures which support the small and medium-size companies considering that these latter constitute the engine to growth and economic and social development in both developed and developing economies such as Algerian one.

In fact, they bring a precious contribution to the gross domestic product, to the added value, excepting the hydrocarbon sector, and to job creation also.

Recognizing the effective role played by this sector and its Importance in the national economy, the government has created a set of structures to support and promote these companies.

This study found that the contribution of small and medium-size companies in the economic and social development has evolved significantly over the period of study i.e.

2004-2012.

This is mainly due to the support and advantages provided by each of the above mentioned structures to encourage investment in these companies.

However, this contribution is weak compared to the hydrocarbons sector.

It should also be noted that the jobs created by these companies are mostly temporary jobs and are mainly in the sector of services.
