Abstract EN

The study probes the most common forms of violence against children; the associated social variables and key implications for social security in KSA.

The study also turns spotlight on the role of social protection centers in curtailing violence against children.

With this end in view, the study administered a survey on all specialists (33 specialists) of Social Protection Centers located in Riyadh City.

Key findings of the survey were: the most common forms of violence against children were denying them cash to meet their personal needs; sexual abuse, denying them access to medical care; shouting at and assaulting them and causing them bruises and fractures.

As per responses, it was also found out that the key social variables contributing to the wide spread of violence against children were: the excessive use of drugs and alcohol; life stress and harsh economic conditions.

Respondents also agreed that lack of self- confidence among children; their disordered behaviors; evil friends and mental health disorder were the major impacts of violence against children on social security.

There was also an agreement among respondents on that quick intervention in cases of violence and abuse cases and immediate coordination between concerned bodies were the major roles of the Social Protection Centers in curtailing violence against children.

Recommendations included: development of deterrent laws informing children of their rights and protection means in case of abuse by parents ; launching of children - oriented awareness programs and parents - oriented ones on good parenting.
