The Syrian crisis came in 2011 to reveal to us the size and nature of the Russian-Syrian alliance on the one hand, and the nature of US-Russian competition in the Middle East region in general and in Syria in particular on the other hand.

As Russia continued to support the Syrian regime and oppose any external military intervention to change that regime, despite the huge US military presence in the region and its dependence on the military machine, which aims to build a strategic security system linked to its global strategy and provide full control over the region, in return a Russian effort aimed at reaching to the region through Syria and in a form that provides a steady support center outside Russia’s vital sphere in a manner that guarantees a balance of competition to highlight the new Russian role, which does not lose its presence near the warm seas.
