Abstract EN

The Study aims to explore editorial tools for journalists who work in Saudi electronic newspapers and how the content engages the readers from the perspective of communicator.

These tool include hypertexts and links, Multimedia, forums, echo chamber effect, e-archive, data retrieval and content reproduction.

The study comes as a result of furnishing more academic researches by using field survey as methodology aiming to collect data on editorial tools used by media professionals who are engaged in electronic journalism and how these tools have effect on e-editing at the communicator’s level.

The researcher distributed an online Google survey to question 32 editors and also chief editors whose experience span over 6-10 years.

She reached three main results: first, the number of readers has affected the decision made by the editor to decide type of news.

Second, the use of Multimedia has succeeded in enhancing the experience of receiver in reading electronic newspapers.

Third, Most Saudi electronic newspapers do not have e-archive systems reported by those included in the study.

Meanwhile, she recommended that media corporations that have fully or partially applied computer technology must embrace establish a Change/transformation Management, so they can develop editorial and news production practices, as well as continuously connecting with those engaged in editing process to understand their needs in the journalism field.
