The study aims to study the role of the political opposition in the Umayyad period, the position of the Umayyads, and to what extent the political opposition was able to influence the Umayyad authority and how it succeeded in weakening the Umayyads and then ending them.

The importance of the topic is that it contributes to the enrichment of the Arab library, and serves the relevant researchers in this regard, as well as works to reveal the motives of the opposition and its real intentions to stand before the Umayyad state, and to show the role of the Umayyads in resisting the opposition factions; And the neglect of military conquests of neighboring areas.

The study used a number of methods, including the historical approach in showing the emergence of the Umayyad opposition since the era of the Caliphs and the beginning of the Umayyad caliphate until its fall, and the analytical descriptive approach in revealing the image of the mutual actions of the state towards the opposition and vice versa.

The research reached several conclusions: the lack of commitment of the Umayyad state to the Islamic laws that gave the nation the right to choose its rulers through the system of consultation and not the Covenant, and this was met with a broad opposition, which was one of the main causes of its collapse.

And also led to the multiplicity of opposition movements against the Umayyad state to stop the movement of Islamic conquests; because of the orientation of the Umayyad caliphs to confront the opponents.

And resulted in the movements of exit on the opposition Umayyad negative effects led to the weakness of the state and then fall.

Finally, opposition movements against the Umayyad were different orientations, some of which were considered personal motives and worldly ambitions.
