The proper site selection for the nuclear power plants can achieve the highest degree of safety during normal conditions or natural disasters.

Since we choose a site to set up a nuclear power plant, we should focus on studying the main geological and natural characteristics of the site.

This helps to create a database related to the location of the nuclear power plant, which is very important during the design and construction stages and will have a direct impact during the operation and on the nuclear facility safety.

Natural phenomena and potential man-made hazards must also be studied precisely because the results of these studies will be taken into consideration during the engineering design phase of the nuclear plant.

It is also important to know the purpose for which the plant will be used, the proposed maximum power level, the nature of the appropriate nuclear fuel, as well as the accepted engineering standards of the reactor design.

The population density and the area characteristics around the site of the nuclear plant should also be taken into consideration.
