Abstract EN
This research tries to shed some light on the question of equivalence in translation studies.
The definition of equivalence between the source and target texts has long been the object of a wide variety of views among the different approaches .
Linguistic approaches, for example, insist on the direct relationship between the structures of the source language and those of the target language to assume a given equivalence between the two.
Other approaches focus on the similarity of the communicative situations in both texts to claim them equivalent, or they take into consideration the identical effect of the message on the reader( or receiver) in the source and target languages.
This paper tracks the development of the notion of equivalence in translation along the different approaches to arrive at the culmination of these studies in what has been known as ‘’the Relevance Theory ‘’.

La présente étude vise à éclaircir la question de l’équivalence entre le texte source (TS) et le texte cible (TC) en traduction.
En fait, la définition de cette Equivalencea été pour longtemps l’objet de plusieurs études dans les différentes approches traductologiques.
L’approche linguistique structurelle, par exemple, identifie l’équivalence par la carrespondence directe entre les structures du (TS) et celles du (TC).
D’autres approches,par ailleurs,focalisent sur la similitude des situations communacatives dans les 2 textes ( TS et TC ), ou bien l’effet identique du message sur le destinataire(lecteur), aussi bien dans la langue source que dans la langue cible.
Cette recherche délimite le développement de la notion et la nature de l’équivalence en traduction tout au long des approches traductologiques pour,enfin,arriver a la théorie de la pertinence fondée sur l’identité de l’interprétation entre le TS et le TC pour réfuter toutes accusations de trahison contre le traducteur.
