Abstract EN

This study has highlighted some special areas in the intellectual discourse of Andalus especially the works of Ibn Hazm and his methodology in exploring issues regarding religious beliefs, Khilafah, religious-political leadership, discipleship and Ijtihad.

His methodologies and opinions were a topic that invoked controversies within the intellectual communities of his time.

Most of Ibn Ham peers saw his opinions as an odd divergence of the dominating juristic and doctrinal norms of the time.

Christians and Jews were not excluded from Ibn Hazm's critical works.

In his works he attempted to persuade them although peacefully but with rather bitter, harsh and at times, vulgar criticism.

Ibn Hazm lived between the years 384H-456H (994AD-1063AD) which means he lived in a time distinguished by many events that had its special implications on Andalus on one hand and on his upbringing and psychology on the other.

With that, the study has concluded that Ibn Hazm's has choose for his thinking an unprecedented and unique methodology.

This methodology was at odds with the prevailing jurists' intellectual ecosystem.

Ibn Hazm's works has definitely enriched the intellectual discourse not only within Muslim society but also with Christians and Jews.
