Abstract EN

This research paper is an attempt to present part of my humble experience in the field of the study of the manuscript heritage, between academic studies and independent research.

It is aimed primarily at students and researchers in the master and doctoral stage.

The paper intended to motivate them to dig into the heritage studies and contribute to the preparation of elite class aimed to take care of our forgotten manuscripts locked in the closets, particularly in our Great Sahara.

During and after my PhD thesis preparation I investigated and studied different manuscripts, including: a valuable one speaking about some of the customs and traditions of Mzab Valley by Sheikh al-Guaradi (published in 2009); as well as "Diwan al-Gharib" (vernacular poetry) by the poet Omar Ibn Aissa Al- Barriani.

I recently published the first part of the personal memoirs of the Mujahid and diplomat Bayoub Semaoui (died in 2015), entitled: My Journey with the Football Team of National Liberation Army (NLA) in his Tour across the Arab Orient (December 1957 - May 1958); first edition published in March 2016.

My research paper is based on these efforts; the study and the publication of the manuscript heritage outside of the academic studies; I try to depict my experience in the publication of personal memoirs, which are recent and based on a single copy (the author's copy).

It is also an attempt to answer some questions raised in this type of work (studying and publishing the late manuscripts).

Part of this work focused on considering the challenges encountered in the study of single copy manuscripts, in addition to its advantages and disadvantages, all through my personal experience in this area.
