Abstract EN

In this paper the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) models has been applied as an approach to cointegration, on annual time series data from (1981-2016) to investigate the relationship between private sector credit and economic growth in Algeria.

The study found that there is a long-run relationship between the variables of the study.

The results of the study also showed a negative insignificant effect for the Private sector bank credit and the total savings on the economic growth, And a significant negative impact of inflation and Government consumption on economic growth, and also showed a positive insignificant effect of trade openness on economic growth in Algeria.

therefore we cannot support the Supply –Leading hypothesis which stipulates that banking activities as given credit as a tool useful for increasing the productivity of the country, and therefore economic growth
