Abstract EN

This study aimed at developing an instrument to assess faculty collegiality.

After reviewing the related literature, and similar tools, an instrument consisted of (29) items distributed into three domains was constructed: (Altruism, 12 items), (Civility, 10 items) and (Courtesy, 7 items).

The validity and reliability of the instrument were established by using content validity, Cronbach - Alpha equation, test-retest, and factor analysis.

To find the applicability of the instrument, it was reviewed by a panel of ten full professors who have had held university administrative positions.

Eight of the panel members (80%), agreed that the results of such assessment give acceptable indicators of faculty collegiality.

The researcher recommended that this instrument, if used by decision makers, may help them in reaching fair and objective decisions regarding faculty tenure, promotion, renewal or termination of contracts.

He also recommended that a code of ethics and morale conduct for faculty members should be adopted.
