The concept of democracy has evolved nowadays and it is no longer based only on the power of the people and the control exercised over the government, nor simply on a periodic electoral mechanism.

This concept has been extended to the participation in the process of decision-making, to the control of the application of these decisions and the results obtained, within the framework of so-called participative democracy.

The latter ensures the means that guarantee the political exercise through political pluralism, the peaceful transfer of power and respect for rights and freedoms.

A real democracy involves a strong civil society because the relationship between civil society and democratization is interdependent.

Civil society strengthens the democratic system as it represents a fundamental pillar for consolidating democracy in a way that ensures its continuity and stability
