Abstract EN

The concept of binary converses is a modern philosophical one.

Arabs knew it earlier as oppositeness.

They knew it as a literal converseness and a converseness in meaning.

The binary converses are items that each one eliminates the presence of the other like black and white, darkness and daylight.

Daylight eliminates darkness.

So the relationship between the binaries is that of contradiction and converseness.

The contrast the presence of binaries creates can be felt clearly and perfectly.

This is applicable to all the thoughts and perceptions and mental visualizations like the feelings of delight and pain, fatigue and repose.

The objective of this study is to show these converses in the poetry of AL- Hotai'ah.

It is an attempt to observe the formulations of these binaries in his texts as his poetry attests their affluence a thing that imposes the necesity of considering them and considering the impart they have upon his poetry, as well.

Also the reasons why he made an extensive use of binaries are to be highlighted and whether they represent a reflection to his personality which seems full of contradictions.

The study concludes that AL-Hotai'ah focused in his poetry upon the binary converses which reflected an exhausted life he lived through which he made a tiring journey in the line of seeking endowments things he got some times and did not in many times in the courts of the people he praised in his poetry .

Likewise, the study concluded that in his poetry he embedded his primary wish of achieving immortality and attaining a luxury life a thing he pursed until the end of his life.
