Abstract EN

The importance of the research is illustrated by the fact that it highlights the strong economic relations between India and Qatar through the currency.

Qatar had used the Indian rupee for its external and internal economic transactions over a long period, which proved the strength of economic ties between the two countries.

It also seeks to identify the attempts of the Qatari government to control the internal money market in the early days of its modern state, and how Qatar sought to find a national currency, to ensure control of its resources after the Government of India decided to reduce the value of the Indian rupee The study seeks to analyze the factors that led to the Indian Rupee being the main currency used in Qatar between 1916 and 1966, and how the Qatari currency market evolved under the Indian rupee, in addition to the great role played by Britain in supporting the use of the Indian rupee in the entire Gulf region before the independence of India.

Interestingly, at that time, all Indian rupees were mintedwith the images of the kings of Britain in essence British influence.

Moreover, When India became independent and the economic situation in Qatar changed significantly with the export of oil in 1949, Britain tried to impose the Pound Sterling in transactions in Qatar, nevertheless, the decline in the value of the Pound made the rules of Qatar prefer to continue using the rupee.

Furthermore, at the beginning of the 60s, the developments in the situation in Qatar had changed considerably towards abandoning the Indian rupee.

Finally, this study examined the factors that led Qatar to abandon the use of the Indian rupee in 1966, the finance unity between Qatar and Dubai, and to analyze the steps taken by the Governments of Qatar and Dubai to withdraw the Indian rupee from the Qatari market, which resulted that in 1966 the use of the rupee as the currency of Qatar was stopped, and was replaced by Qatari Riyal
