Abstract EN

This study aimed to investigate how the mental image of the Yemeni National Security is formed by journalists.

In order to achieve this objective, the descriptive analytical method was used, and a questionnaire was administered as a tool for collecting primary data.

Major findings of the study revealed that the participants strongly agreed that the concept of national security is linked to combating the growing of terrorism phenomenon, maintaining the sovereignty and independence of the state, and securing strategic plans.

This is accompanied by a blurred concept regarding the role of the National Security in achieving social welfare and focusing on internal and security affairs.

The participants also confirmed that the relationship between the state-run media and the National Security Organization contributes to the formation of a positive mental image, and that the state-run media focuses on creating a strong mental image of the National Security.

On the other hand, the Party Media distort the mental image, and journalists do not build a mental image by following this type of media.

In light of these findings, a media spokesman for all sectors of the state, including the National Security Organization should be appointed.

The mission of this spokesman is to provide the media with any developments on the local, regional and international levels.

Journalists should also present a positive mental image of the National Security to the public when dealing with national security issues.
