Abstract EN

The purpose of this study is to find answers to many of the questions raised about the "Big Data" and its relationship to libraries, such as the concept of big data in general, and in libraries in particular, characteristics and challenges associated with them, what are the areas of utilization in libraries, and the most important difficulties facing libraries in dealing with them.

The documentary approach was used in the study, where the published research studies were reviewed in the field, and the researchers' opinions were taken to answer the study questions.

Results showed that library data are subject to the same characteristics of the big data, namely, speed, size and diversity.

The areas of benefiting from the analysis of big data in libraries are numerous, especially in the field of collection development and defining users' needs.

Findings also showed that there are many difficulties facing libraries in the analysis and utilization of big data, especially the lack of data scientists in libraries.
